In memoriam Esmeralda Brown

Dear friends,

It is with great sadness that Docip has received news of the passing of Esmeralda Brown, former representative of the Board of the United Methodist Women in New York.

We knew and loved Esmeralda as a strong woman with an enormous heart, always dedicated to helping the poor and underrepresented, and to supporting the oppressed and rejected. The Indigenous Peoples and many others who come to the United Nations Headquarters in search of justice and to fight for their rights have lost a powerful advocate and a strong supporter of their fight.

Without Esmeralda, Docip’s work at the UN in New York would have been impossible. As for so many others, she was our mentor and guide throughout the years of our participation in the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. We will truly miss her presence, but her spirit will continue to live together among us.

May she rest in peace.
