Dear Friends,

As we bid farewell to 2024 and look forward to the new year, we’d like to bridge the winter “conference gap” by sharing our Summary Notes of the 23rd Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), held from April 15 - 26, 2024, in New York.

Much like last year’s notes, these summaries are not intended to be narrative reports. Instead, they offer detailed minutes capturing the “on-the-ground” reality of the discussions that took place.

Before you delve into this year’s summaries, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible team behind this comprehensive document. Docip’s work simply wouldn’t be the same without the dedication of our volunteers: Léa, Cynthia, Joel, Elisa, Tony, Ledeebari, Elisa and Prakriti — thank you for your professionalism, enthusiasm, and patience! Thank you as well to our fantastic translators who ensure that this text can be shared around the globe!

A special thank you also goes to our outstanding interns, Maëlle Panier and Laura Paire, who spent countless hours meticulously reviewing statements, transcripts, footage, and notes to ensure that no voice was overlooked. Your hard work and commitment are deeply appreciated, and I wish you nothing but success in your future endeavors!

With that, we hope you enjoy reading the notes. See you in 2025!

Kind regards,

Tristan P. Harnisch
